Immediate Family in Urdu Transliteration: Five Useful Examples
For immediate-family introductions in Urdu transliteration, use the complete sentences for your mom, dad, brother, sister, and son. They are more useful in a real introduction than isolated vocabulary. Notice that the standalone sister term names a relationship, while the complete sister example identifies a specific person as yours.
Start with these expressions
| English | Transliteration | Native script |
|---|---|---|
| This is my mom | yeh meri ammi hai | یہ میری امی ہے |
| This is my dad | yeh mere abbu hain | یہ میرے ابّو ہیں |
| This is my brother | yeh mera bhai hai | یہ میرا بھائی ہے |
| This is my sister | yeh meri behen hai | یہ میری بہن ہے |
| This is my son | yeh mera beta hai | یہ میرا بیٹا ہے |
| behen | behen | بہن |
Use a complete sentence when you are identifying someone
The key distinction is purpose. A standalone family word is useful when naming or recognising a relationship, but it does not by itself say who the person is. The sister vocabulary item is documented as meaning “sister” [2]. By contrast, the complete sister example has the structure needed when pointing to a person and telling someone who she is. Apply the same distinction to the other selected examples: choose the complete sentence when you are introducing a family member, and treat the isolated word as a vocabulary item to recognise or recall. The set covers five complete identifications—mom, dad, brother, sister, and son—rather than a complete map of every immediate-family term. This keeps your first practice focused: match the English situation to the sentence that actually identifies your relative.

Use expression 4 in the table above.
Choose the complete sister-identification sentence, not the standalone vocabulary item. The situation requires you to identify a particular person as your sister, so the full sentence fits the task.
Practise by looking at five family photos or imagined situations. For each one, first decide whether you need a complete identification sentence or only a relationship word, then select the matching example before checking the displayed form.
