Common Places in Urdu Transliteration: Labels and Useful Examples

For common places in Urdu transliteration, learn standalone labels such as Home, Market, and Office, then notice how complete examples communicate an action or suggestion. The dictionary evidence supports these three place meanings, while the examples show going home, suggesting the mosque, and going to the market.

Start with these expressions

EnglishTransliterationNative script
Home ghar گھر
Market bazaar بازار
Office daftar دفتر
Yes, let's go home. haan, ghar chalo. ہاں، گھر چلو۔
Let's go to the mosque, okay? masjid chalo, achha? مسجد چلو، اچھا؟
I go to the market. main bazaar jata hun. میں بازار جاتا ہوں۔

Labels are not the same as complete examples

Use a standalone place label when you are identifying or recognising a location. The dictionary passages document Home, Market, and Office as place meanings: the first describes a dwelling or home [1], the second a market or marketplace [2], and the third an office or place of business [3]. These are useful vocabulary items, but each one is still only a label.

A complete example does something more practical. The home example communicates agreement and going home; the mosque example suggests going there and asks for agreement; the market example states that the speaker goes there. That is the distinction to apply today: do not expect a single place label to communicate the action around it. When reviewing the table, first identify whether you need the name of a place or a complete expression for a real situation. Keep the market sentence as the example rather than assuming its form applies universally to every speaker.

Try it

You are pointing to your house on a map and need only the Urdu place label, not a sentence about going there. Which entry should you choose?

Choose your answer before reading on.

Check your answer:

Use expression 1 in the table above.

This fits because the entry means Home on its own. The other home-related item expresses an action and agreement about going home, so it is a complete example rather than the simple place label.

Review the rendered table once more and sort each item mentally into two groups: a place label or a complete example. Then choose the item that matches your next real conversation.
