Daily Routine in Bengali Transliteration: Simple Morning Phrases
For a small Bengali morning routine, start with complete first-person action phrases for waking, brushing, getting ready, and sleeping. Add the standalone word for “then” only when you are connecting actions; the combined form already expresses “then I brush my teeth.” A separate question asks what someone does in the morning.
Start with these expressions
| English | Transliteration | Native script |
|---|---|---|
| Then | taropor | তারপর |
| Yes, I wake up | hyan ghum theke uthi | হ্যাঁ ঘুম থেকে উঠি |
| Then I brush teeth | taropor dant maji | তারপর দাঁত মাজি |
| I wake up | ghum theke uthi | ঘুম থেকে উঠি |
| I brush teeth | dant maji | দাঁত মাজি |
| I get ready | toiri hoi | তৈরি হই |
| What do you do in the morning? | shokale ki koro | সকালে কী করো |
| I sleep | ami ghumai | আমি ঘুমাই |
Use “then” to connect a complete action
The most useful distinction is between a sequence marker and a complete routine statement. The standalone word meaning “then” signals that something happens afterward; the dictionary records meanings including “after that,” “thereafter,” and “then” [1]. It is not the action itself. Use it before a following action, as in the complete combined statement about brushing teeth. This prevents a common beginner mistake: stopping after “then” and leaving the listener waiting for what happened next.
For a short routine, choose a complete first-person form for each activity: waking up, brushing teeth, getting ready, or sleeping. The morning question is also a complete conversational prompt, so answer it with an action statement rather than only naming the time of day. You can keep your answer short and add the sequence marker only when you want to show order.

You have just said that you wake up and now want to say, “Then I brush my teeth.” Which phrase should come next?

Use expression 3 in the table above.
This phrase fits because it combines the sequence marker with the first-person brushing action. It therefore expresses the next step in the routine, rather than giving only the idea of “then” without an activity.
Build a two-line morning answer: begin with waking up, then add the brushing statement. Say it as one sequence, and use the morning question as a prompt for practice.
